Finding the Light

I had a conversation with a good friend today about sadness, and more specifically, depression. Which I will openly admit to having struggled with for most of my adult life. We shared stories of our experience with the darkness of depression. It was a heavy topic to discuss. But an important one. Depression and sadness is like darkness. And when we're in the dark, we stumble through with uncertainty and doubt. We can no longer see the beauty of things around us. We feel alone, isolated, and afraid. All we need... a light. A flicker in the darkness, and suddenly we can see.

Darkness isn't actually a thing. Instead, it is the absence of a thing. It is the absence of light. Light is a thing. It's tangible. We can test its speed, we can hear its sound. All it takes for the darkness to subside is one little light.

Light can guide and lead us, it can warm us, it can lift us up. It is fuel for our souls.

A few weeks back I talked about being the light... but what happens when we instead need the light- are in search of it? Faith. Faith breeds hope, and when there is hope, there is light.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:5

Find certainty in the great knowledge that no darkness was ever stronger than the light. Do not be afraid of the night, for God put the stars in the sky to guide us and give us hope.
